Girls are cruel. As the mom of two teen girls, that statement feels as true today as it was 30 years ago.
Why?
Today is #internationalwomensday and my mind can’t help but think that one of the best measures of progress must be how our girls treat other peoples’ girls.
Girls grow up into women, and if we want to create strong thriving communities of successful women who are lifting each other up, we can’t afford to be afraid of each other and we can’t afford to tear each other down. Our girls see us at our best and at our worst.
So, what I’m doing and what I will continue to do, is catch my moments of judgement (because let’s face it – we all judge others, all the time) and shut them down – flipping the script.
Let’s start with:
Girls are powerful. Girls are inspirational. Girls are kind. Girls have deep emotions. Girls are strong. Girls are gritty. Girls can do anything.
There is literally limitless opportunity out there, so let’s focus on that.
Instead of cutting smaller pieces of the pie, let’s bake more pies. (paraphasing @Michael Tremblay, #InvestOttawa)
